This class will present the Fluid Path study in the Generative Design Extension in Fusion 360 ("Generative Fluids” for short), a powerful generative technology for the CFD industry, explain how to apply it, and share advanced tips and tricks to significantly speed up the design process. You'll learn the Generative Fluids workflow, the physics and optimization behind it, and important aspects involved in getting as much as possible from the tool. Additionally, we'll cover how to connect the workflow with other Autodesk capabilities and products, such as Generative Design in Fusion 360 (to combine both generative technologies, structural and fluids); Autodesk CFD for result validation; and Fusion Electronics Cooling in Fusion 360. With seamless integration into existing design pipelines, fully automated virtual wind-tunnel analysis will enable studios to assess performance criteria, visualize airflow, and make informed design decisions at any stage of development. In this class, we will present the use of Autodesk CFD for a new building project with a goal for net-zero energy compliance. The building and construction industries are responsible for about 40% of the global energy use and about 30% of the global carbon emissions, contributing to climate change. Energy-optimized building design is one of the green building principles that, by 2030, could reduce the carbon footprint and achieve reduction of building-related emissions by 50%—and deliver net-zero buildings by 2050. In an endeavor to design energy-efficient buildings, adoption of new technologies for enhancing indoor environment quality, thermal quality, and lighting quality are imperative. And implementation of such technologies needs validation for performance. Modeling and simulation software such as Autodesk CFD could be used to estimate the performance of the built environment and compare different design decisions in order to realize the opportunity to reduce energy consumption and, therefore, carbon emissions.

The interoperability between Autodesk Revit and Autodesk CFD can be challenging in a number of areas. Most Revit design models typically contain a high level of detail for construction, gaps in geometry, clashes, and other unresolved conflicts that can create issues when imported to the CFD environment. In this session, participants will learn how to develop and maintain a Revit model for geometry creation suitable for Autodesk CFD analysis using industry best-practices, and review examples of the type of Revit geometry that can be repurposed and what should be replaced. The session will also present methods of leveraging Revit's powerful data, visualization, coordination, and documentation functionality to enhance CFD development, design coordination, data management, and reporting.

In this round-table discussion we will briefly give an overview of the Autodesk, Inc., engagement in the various industry consortia and the existing interfaces for the process plant industry and the oil and gas industry. In this hands-on lab, learn how Inventor® Professional, Autodesk® Simulation CFD, and Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical design tools can empower structural engineers and architects to accurately assess designs for the infrastructure of our growing world. Autodesk design and creation suites are a smorgasbord of design tools, many with unlimited cloud computing capabilities. Creatively exploring various combinations and interoperability functions of Autodesk Simulation tools in nontraditional workflows can have a profound effect on design. This lab provides an opportunity to practice the workflow and techniques in a hands-on environment. A case study shows the techniques that are needed then justifies using simulation tools and workflows to accurately predict the thermal profile and resultant stresses through validation against measured bridge data. Attendees learn how Inventor designs can be analyzed for thermal loads using Simulation CFD and for thermal stresses using Simulation Mechanical.

This class will work through the process of using Simulation CFD software and Simulation Mechanical software to generate engineering data throughout the product development process in order to optimize the design. You will discover that you don't need to be an analyst or expert in finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to use the Simulation software as many engineers still believe today. We will walk through the entire process of setting up and running simulations that examine how the effects of wind may directly affect mechanical properties, performance, and product design.

Designs are all around you—some that have used Simulation software, and some that could benefit from this optimization. It might seem strange, but something as simple as a keg can be used to perfectly demonstrate nearly every Simulation software product. This class will cover the basics of finite element analysis (FEA) and explore examples (including linear stress, modal-to-heat transfer, and dynamic simulations) in order to gain additional insight and improve product design for automotive, oil and gas, and industrial machinery industries.

In this class, we start with an overview of how simulation can be used during the complete design process. Simulation enables our customers to stand out from their competition because they can be more innovative and get to market faster while ensuring product quality. We cover several tools, including Autodesk® Force Effect™ and Dynamic Simulation in Inventor® 3D CAD software. We look at sloshing by performing a CFD analysis with Autodesk® Simulation CFD software, and we use Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical software to analyze vibrations.

Simulation tools are transforming the field of aerospace design by enabling affordable, on-demand simulation capabilities. Escape Dynamics, Inc., has been actively using mechanical and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation tools in the design/optimization process of several key components of their space launch system, including antennas for wireless energy transfer, airframe and structural components of a single-state-to-orbit space plane, and a highly efficient combustion-free engine configured to use wireless microwave energy to power a space plane. In this lecture we will summarize the key benefits of using Simulation software tools in aerospace design application, and we’ll focus more narrowly on the CFD and mechanical simulations of our thermal thruster engine. We will specifically focus on comparison between simulation results and the real-world test data and share the lessons we've learned in simulating various heat-exchanger topologies, flow-through nozzles and pipes, and flow-with-heat addition.

This class will walk though techniques for preparing geometry for simulation using SimStudio Tools. We'll cover hints that will help you to identify potentially problematic areas, and then we'll show you how to quickly repair models, remove unneeded detail, and optimize the geometry in a way that will help you to create a high-quality finite element analysis (FEA) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) mesh.

In this class, you will use SimStudio Tools to change models from fully detailed, production-ready components to models that are suitable for analysis in Autodesk CFD software, Simulation Mechanical software, or Moldflow software. Production models are more finely detailed than needed for simulation analysis. This leads to either long analysis run times due to high element counts, large effort put into remodeling designs into simpler forms, or often both. And that is if they run at all! You will use SimStudio Tools to simplify an existing circuit board and enclosure design for use in an Autodesk CFD software airflow and cooling analysis. You will then use SimStudio Tools to adjust the enclosure geometry for improved cooling. This session features SimStudio and CFD.
