Creating custom bridge parts ready for modeling transportation projects in InfraWorks software can be challenging for the uninitiated. This class will provide the chance to learn how to create these parts using both the Revit and Inventor methodologies from scratch in a hands-on environment. We will look at the benefits of each method and how each can be incorporated into a transportation project and progressed through the workflow from modeling in InfraWorks to the documentation phase in Revit. These techniques will be worked through in the context of bridge engineering, but they will also be applicable to tunneling.

In this technical session, we'll go through the entire corridor workflow using the new corridor interface. Here we'll look at creating a corridor with multiple baselines (alignments and feature lines). We'll also add corridor transitions to the model and review best practices. We'll also incorporate several custom subassemblies into the model. This will be an in-depth look at ways these new tools can improve our corridor model.

The Volterra-Detroit Foundation (VDF) set out on a mission to digitize the history of Volterra, which dates back beyond the Roman era into the ancient histories of the Etruscan era. VDF won an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games to use the Unreal Engine back in 2020. This session will introduce you to the SOFiSTiK Bridge + Infrastructure Modeler (SBIM), a well-established application for Revit that helps you create linear structures. We'll present various functionalities together with project examples from industry leaders. We'll also focus on the modeling of reinforcement and prestressing for concrete bridges. Parametric profile-based design is taken to the next level with enriched information for rebars and tendons. It gives you more flexibility and custom levels of parametrization. In this session, we'll walk through an end-to-end cloud-centered workflow on using large point-cloud data for detailed design using ReCap Pro software and the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform. We will share simple tools to prepare surfaces, intelligently decimate large point-cloud data, publish to Autodesk Construction Cloud, and collaboratively extract design elements (like curbs, gutters, median, walls, ADA ramps, driveways, and drainage breaklines) and assets via browser and take them into detailed design technology like Civil 3D software to generate highly accurate surface models. Such tools are built for handling large quantities of data, but tend to focus more on physical accuracy than visual fidelity. While new tools are emerging to visualize projects in high-quality 3D before they're built, they're typically solutions that can't easily be extended to work with all the new technologies driving innovation in the video game industry. In this session, we'll cover techniques we've developed for rendering large architectural and infrastructure environments in real time. We'll discuss the challenge of importing these models into the Unity gaming engine, as well as the opportunities it affords in terms of improving fidelity, adding interactivity, and building for multiple platforms, including virtual reality (VR). We'll also discuss practical applications for these techniques, such as multi-user review sessions, public feedback gathering, and interactive training building.

For developers and service providers in a wide range of fields other than construction—such as mobility, robotics, mapping, security, and maintenance—the value of reliable, high-quality spatial information on buildings and infrastructure is expected to increase in the future. In Toyota Woven City—which is currently under construction as an experimental city where various technologies can be tried for the well-being of people—we've been exploring the ideal form of spatial information, including building information modeling (BIM) data, while closely observing the needs of a wide variety of users. Based on the knowledge we've gained there, we've been developing spatial information of building structures for various users outside the construction industry from the client's standpoint, as well as developing databases and APIs to provide this information in an open-data format. We hope that sharing our experiences will help accelerate the development of spatial information as the future social data infrastructure.
