Sustainable, low-carbon buildings play a pivotal role in environmental sustainability and economic decarbonization. In this session, we'll discuss how CPAC Green Construction and Autodesk initiated a design competition in Thailand to spur the next generation's interest in creating low-carbon, net-zero buildings. This competition uniquely pairs young architects with engineering students early in the design stage to promote systems thinking right from the conceptual stage. We provide these students with Autodesk Forma, Revit software, KIT CARBON (embodied carbon calculator software), and comprehensive online training, empowering them to shape sustainable, low-carbon buildings. Through the collaborative efforts of various associations and industry partners, the competition was a great success, attracting 88 teams from 12 universities.

CADS first presented RebarCAD 3D for Revit software at AU in 2018. We're now nearly seven years into the development of the program, and, as a result, a lot has changed! Detailing rebar in Revit has been made easier and more efficient using additional tools to add special rebar bend types, circular bars, and even the ability to apply "one click" detailing to members using the Smart Detailer. The audit facility provides the user with full and efficient control over all rebar in the model, checking assignment to release and identifying any rebar that does not conform to the customizable preset rebar requirements. Detailers can efficiently output rebar production files directly from the Revit model to the major fabrication systems for production, with just a few clicks. Revision control tools for bar list and release management—combined with the ability to fully lock the rebar type, position, and dimensions in the model—result in complete quality control.

This case study explores how digital transformation happens, starting from the traditional design process and moving to Autodesk Construction Cloud using building information modeling (BIM) tools. It also identifies challenges, the importance of education and training, and the short-term and long-term benefits. The major challenge is the lack of capacity and capability, lack of a common platform, absence of standardization, inconsistencies in workflow and processes, and loss of information. We initiated the transformation by redefining the workflow processes, bringing Autodesk Construction Cloud, standardizing design language and deliverables, creating libraries, and training. This increased adaptation, leading to an increase in efficiency of model development, peer review, design collaboration, design management, and approval by all stakeholders. We were also able to define roles and responsibilities, ensure version control across all stakeholders, and review clash detection, thus improving on-time efficiency, accuracy, and quality of the deliverables by sharing information and collaborating.

In 2018, HMC Architects created a dedicated digital practice to support the firm's digital transformation. A major pillar of HMC's digital practice is technology training, which serves to develop the "digital IQ" of team members in their adoption of the latest technologies and methods. As the leader of this division of digital practice, the speaker has developed technology training regimens to increase HMC's project teams' technical abilities, implementation of cloud-based collaboration, and other advanced building information modeling (BIM)-based workflows. Today, our technology training has merged with all of HMC's learning and development training with the implementation of a unified learning management system. This session will walk through how catchments or watersheds can be automatically generated using a surface model and assigned to drainage networks as part of a concept design in Civil 3D software. Ultimately, with the Civil 3D InfoDrainage integration tool, we'll show how you can bring all the data across to InfoDrainage and use its more extensive runoff routing methods and rainfall generation tools to set up and simulate hydrology, and accurately size up the drainage network.

Revit 2023 software has completely overhauled the analytical modeling workflow. Now the physical and analytical models have the freedom to act independently. The analytical model elements must be created separately from the physical structure; however, you can still "link" them together. This ultimately gives better control over the analytical model and what it is allowed to represent. These changes are drastic, but don't worry. We're here to help explain how it all works, and have you give it a try in this hands-on lab. You don't need to be a structural engineer or a Revit structural modeler, because we'll show you how you could use the Revit analytical elements to help in the creation of physical walls, physical beams, and many other fun creations. In this lab, we'll also show you how to create your own workflows using Dynamo to customize the automation of the creation of the analytical elements.
