openBIM workflows enable interoperability and collaboration among different software applications and stakeholders in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry using neutral, industry-standard formats. These workflows center around Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), an open and neutral data format for building information modeling (BIM), but they also include other formats and technologies such as BCF (BIM collaboration format), bSDD (buildingSMART Data Dictionary), and IDS. In this session, you'll learn about the Autodesk strategy around IFC and openBIM, the current and future capabilities of Revit, and other Autodesk AEC products to support openBIM workflows. The SSEN Transmission team will demonstrate steps taken to grow a more traditional 2D AutoCAD design process into a collaborative design approach using Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud. How do you design a factory while missing key data about the machines you intend to install? How do you ensure a reliable, scalable flow of information across disciplinary boundaries, enabling true, trusted, and fast-paced collaboration? Making the world's greenest batteries on an industrial scale requires a new approach to factory design. Concurrently working on several multibillion-dollar gigafactory projects, Northvolt's central Factory Design Team uses an integrated factory design toolbox with its heart in the Autodesk ecosystem. However, a key component has until recently been missing: efficient, cross-disciplinary, and scalable data management. This session will tell the story of how Northvolt's Factory Design Team has established a dynamic data-management infrastructure, how conventional data silos are torn down, and how true design collaboration between manufacturing design and construction design can be achieved with scalability, modularization, and speed at its core.

The session will provide an overview of the collaboration between Final Aim and Yamaha Motor to co-create a unique EV designed for agriculture. Using generative AI from the conceptual phase, the project exemplifies the integration of AI into industrial design processes to create innovative solutions for specific functional requirements. Generative AI facilitated extensive ideation, producing more than 2,000 design ideas—which led to a distinctive, practical vehicle design with high visibility and load-bearing features. In parallel, the project incorporated blockchain technology to manage and safeguard design data, intellectual property, and design contracts, demonstrating an advanced approach to maintaining data integrity and authenticity in the manufacturing industry. The project highlights the capabilities of generative AI and blockchain in design and manufacturing. It addresses the complexities of design process, data, and intellectual property in the era of AI-driven creation.

This session will share details of a project called the VRED Session Management Service (VRED SMS). A prototype built by solutions engineers working together from Autodesk and Amazon Web Services (AWS), VRED SMS demonstrates how VRED 3D visualization software from Autodesk can be deployed and scaled on AWS in an on-demand way. VRED SMS allows applications that can interface a REST API to request a VRED collaboration session. Automated workflows execute to prepare the requisite instances and VRED configuration for a requested VRED scene file. This solution comprises a variety of AWS services, including but not limited to EC2 Image Builder, AWS Step Functions, AWS Systems Manager, AWS Secrets Manager, AWS Lambda, Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon API Gateway. It is also deployed using AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK). To automate the configuration of Autodesk's VRED software, this solution uses its Python and web APIs. The programmatic and workflow-driven nature of the solution makes it relatively simple to customize.

This case study explores how we automatically ingested Autodesk Construction Cloud building information modeling (BIM) content (3D model, drawings, docs) using generative AI, knowledge graph technologies, and SAP gateways to automatically generate assets in SAP. This smart handover provides operations with an adapted data framework enabling rapid information contextualization to support any field engineering or maintenance problem-solving activities. In this POV—executed in collaboration with Autodesk, Capgemini, and Cognite—we've explored solutions to the two following business problems: How do we reduce the postdelivery bottleneck of asset creation in SAP from 12 months to less than one month, enabling bidirectional updates between SAP and BIM data sources? How do we reduce downtime and improve reliability by decreasing the response time following an event by 70%–80%? And how do we eliminate the burden of manual data gathering (contextualization) across multiple siloed systems and provide co-pilot support (generative AI) to summarize and correlate data sources?
